The history of cinema began in the late 19th century when American inventor Thomas Edison created the "Kinetoscope." Unlike modern movie theaters where people watch together, it was a device for one person at a time to view moving images inside a box. Later, the Lumière brothers in France invented the "Cinematograph," and in 1895, "Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory" was publicly screened, marking the start of modern cinema. Navit conducted a survey on "movies" targeting 1,000 monitor members, mainly housewives across Japan. Regarding the frequency of watching movies, "a few times a year" was the most common at 28.8%. As for viewing methods, "movie theaters" were the most popular with 555 respondents, followed by "video streaming services" and "TV broadcasts." "Action/Adventure" was the most popular genre, and 29.5% of respondents cited "actors/directors" as the most important factor when choosing a movie. Additionally, the 2025 box office ranking was topped by "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle Arc, Part 1."
