NetApp has introduced new data management capabilities optimized for Red Hat OpenShift, delivering increased resilience and scalability for virtualized environments across on-premises and public clouds. These features enable customers to improve the speed and predictability of data backup, recovery, and daily operations, ensuring more reliable migration, scaling, and management of virtual machine (VM) and container environments.

According to a Red Hat report from last year, 71% of enterprises have virtualized more than half of their IT infrastructure, expanding these environments to handle the massive data volumes required for the AI era. However, traditional backup methods that scan entire VM disks have faced issues such as prolonged backup times and unpredictable recovery.

The newly announced features include:

- **NetApp Backup and Recovery for Red Hat OpenShift** A simple, secure, and cost-effective data protection service for OpenShift applications on NetApp ONTAP storage. Utilizing forever-incremental backups with Changed Block Tracking (CBT), it accelerates backup and recovery while maintaining storage efficiency. New updates enhance VM-level protection and automate recovery workflows.

- **NetApp Disaster Recovery for Red Hat OpenShift (Public Preview)** An orchestration service that integrates and automates disaster recovery for Kubernetes-based VMs. It allows for simplified failover operations through guided processes.

Dallas Olson, Chief Commercial Officer at NetApp, stated: "Our collaboration with Red Hat enables predictable backup and recovery even as VM environments scale, allowing customers to migrate, operate, and protect large-scale environments with greater speed and reliability."
