newmo Opens First Autonomous Taxi Development Hub 'Autonomy Garage Tokyo' at Tokyo Distribution Center

newmo Inc., with the mission of 'making regions colorful through mobility,' opened 'Autonomy Garage Tokyo' in May 2026 at the Tokyo Distribution Center (TRC) in Ota Ward, Tokyo. This facility serves as the core for the company's research, vehicle development, and implementation. The current 20-person autonomous driving team will be expanded to 40 by the end of the year, with technologies developed here being deployed for trials in the Osaka area, where collaboration with local governments is underway. To address the shortage of taxi drivers, newmo is working on next-generation regional transportation through its 'newmo Autonomy' project, alongside its taxi and human resources businesses. Since announcing its full-scale entry in July 2025, the company has signed partnership agreements with Sakai and Osaka cities, targeting Level 4 commercialization by 2028. The TRC facility is a hub for 'Physical AI' startups, making it an ideal location for newmo's first dedicated development base in Tokyo. Additionally, the company operates taxi services in the Tokyo metropolitan area through subsidiaries such as Umikaze Kotsu, Yoho Kotsu, and Toranomon Kotsu. To support team growth, newmo is also hosting 'Beer Bash' networking events for prospective recruits.
