Recent market rumors suggested that Apple's (AAPL-US) first foldable smartphone might face a delayed launch due to complex assembly processes and low yield rates. In response, multiple Apple supply chain executives stated that the product design has long been finalized and that related companies have already entered peak production season, with the device being manufactured at scale without issues.
According to a report by Cailianshe on Wednesday (8th), several industry insiders said that delivery in September should be "no problem," and they have "not heard" of any launch delays.
Meanwhile, a report from the First Financial Daily on Tuesday indicated that Wang Xiaoya, Senior Analyst at Sigmaintell's Mobile Division, expects Apple to launch its first foldable device this fall as planned. However, the initial sales rollout may be delayed, with limited pre-order quantities.
"The primary reason for the potential delay in Apple's first foldable phone launch is the high technical difficulty of the foldable screen cover and hinge, complex assembly processes, and relatively low yield rates. The launch is now expected around October to November," Wang Xiaoya said.
Driven by new product launches from Apple and others, Sigmaintell forecasts that global foldable smartphone shipments will reach approximately 24 million units in 2026, representing about 25% year-on-year growth. Apple's foldable device is projected to account for 7 to 8 million units of that total. By 2027, global foldable device shipments could exceed 30 million units.
