Hong Kong stocks rebounded sharply on Monday (20th), boosted by multiple positive factors, successfully recovering from Friday's decline. By the close, the Hang Seng Index surged 2.36%, reclaiming the psychological 25,000-point level and closing at 25,143.05. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 3.01%, while the Hang Seng Tech Index gained 2.79%, briefly reaching a 3.6% intraday high.
Large-cap tech and AI application stocks were the market's focal point. Alibaba closed up 3.7%, Tencent rose 3.5%, and other tech leaders including Meituan, Xiaomi, and JD.com all gained over 3%. Notably, China Software International surged approximately 23% after hours, driven by a strategic announcement of a token revenue-sharing and joint innovation agreement with large model firm 'Moonshot AI'.
However, AI application stocks showed internal divergence. Zhipu fell 19.56%, while MINIMAX-W corrected sharply, dropping over 10%, likely due to valuation adjustments and fragile shareholding structures.
The energy sector remained active throughout the day amid escalating Middle East tensions. As the Strait of Hormuz situation tightened and U.S. forces attacked key Iranian oil facilities, oil and coal stocks rallied collectively. China Coal Energy rose over 8%, Yankuang Energy surged over 9%, and CNOOC gained over 5%.
In the low-interest-rate environment, mainland Chinese banks with attractive expected dividend yields continued their upward trend. Construction Bank rose over 4%, with its 2026 expected dividend yield widely seen as superior to Hong Kong dollar fixed deposit rates.
The biopharmaceutical sector also performed strongly, with荣昌生物 (Chengdu Rongchang) gaining over 9%. Market analysts noted that the sector is undergoing a valuation recovery driven by a 'triple-bottom convergence' of policy support, capital inflows, and improving earnings. Additionally, domestic innovative drugs are transitioning from platform-based output to global commercialization.
Looking ahead, Haitong Securities and China Galaxy Securities believe Hong Kong stocks are currently in a recovery window driven by capital inflows. Sentiment improvement is primarily fueled by a convergence of domestic and foreign investor confidence. However, a sustained long-term reversal will depend on fundamental recovery post-earnings season. Strategically, institutions recommend focusing on low-volatility dividend stocks, leading AI and internet firms, and the upward-trending innovative drug industry.
