On May 21, the Taiwan stock market surged 1,783.17 points, marking the largest single-day gain in history, driven by TSMC (2330-TW) pulling up at the close, MediaTek (2454-TW) hitting the daily trading limit, and multiple large-cap stocks rallying. The index broke through both the 43,000 and 44,000 thresholds, closing at a record high of 44,232.87 points, reclaiming the 5-day and quarterly moving averages. However, trading value shrank to NT$835.6 billion.
Analyzing institutional trading activities today, foreign investors sold NT$4.331 billion, domestic securities firms bought NT$3.507 billion, and investment trusts bought NT$17.232 billion, resulting in a net institutional buy of NT$16.407 billion.
