The graduation season job-hunting boom has triggered a tectonic shift in southern Taiwan's employment market. According to a survey by 1111 Job Bank, job openings in southern Taiwan increased by nearly 10% year-on-year in the first half of this year, outpacing growth in central and northern regions. Benefiting from the continuous expansion of emerging industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) manufacturing, technology investments are driving simultaneous regional economic and employment growth, making southern Taiwan's job market increasingly vibrant.

To strengthen industry-academia collaboration and identify outstanding talent, 1111 Job Bank partnered with the Taiwan Youth Cultural Innovation Association to launch the third Da-Wu-Shan New Talent Workplace Award. The event brought together 14 key universities in southern Taiwan, covering 36 job categories including smart manufacturing, public safety, and innovative business. Through expert nominations and evaluations, the initiative emphasizes that even newcomers can excel, aiming to rally societal support for young talent and co-create a more supportive work environment.

In today’s society, where work-life balance is increasingly valued, a survey by 1111 Job Bank on employee workplace vitality reveals that workers in southern Taiwan spend an average of 4.3 hours per week on stress relief—higher than their counterparts in central and northern regions. Additionally, the proportion of workers with daily working hours under eight hours is the highest in the south, highlighting superior quality of life. In contrast, while northern workers worry most about investment losses and central workers stress over car loans, southern workers are more burdened by student loan repayments.

As the Executive Yuan promotes mental and physical adjustment leave to foster supportive workplaces, private enterprises aiming to boost workplace vitality during labor shortages must focus on concrete factors: competitive salaries, amiable colleagues and supervisors, flexible working hours, short commutes, and easy access to ad-hoc leave. The survey also indicates that commuting convenience and proximity to family and friends are powerful magnets for talent.

Huang Ruowei, spokesperson for 1111 Job Bank, stated, “Employees’ job selection criteria have evolved from prioritizing high salaries to balancing life convenience and work quality. In recent years, southern Taiwan’s job market has benefited from tech investments and industrial clustering, leading to steadily increasing job opportunities. Coupled with relatively reasonable working hours and lower commuting stress, workers enjoy more leisure and family time, successfully achieving a better work-life balance.”
