The Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) held the 'TEEMA Science Park Investment Promotion Seminar and Mexico Investment Forum' this afternoon (21st), inviting around 50 member companies. Chairman Liu Yang-wei stated in his speech that the original motivation behind establishing the TEEMA park was to address the challenges faced by Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) when expanding overseas—often needing assistance but unable to find suitable support. He emphasized that the future TEEMA park aims to achieve three major goals: ensuring equal treatment for large, medium, and small enterprises; establishing a unified liaison window between the park and local governments; and creating Taiwan-style facilities and living environments within the park.

Liu Yang-wei noted that although this was the first such event and the venue was relatively small, approximately 50 member companies attended, including chairmen from six companies and CEOs from five others. He expressed hope that the next forum would attract even more participants.

Liu highlighted that TEEMA is actively establishing TEEMA Science Parks globally with one primary objective: to make it easier and more convenient for member companies to expand overseas. The idea for the science park emerged about two to three years ago, initially sparked by observing that Taiwan's SMEs and non-electronics firms often struggled to receive adequate support when operating abroad due to their smaller scale. In contrast, large corporations like Foxconn (2317-TW) and its group face vastly different conditions and treatment.

Secondly, TEEMA observed that foreign government agencies also face significant challenges in attracting investment. By forming a dedicated team or organization, TEEMA aims to bridge the gap between Taiwan's SMEs and host governments, effectively facilitating matchmaking. Since assuming the chairmanship, Liu has actively promoted the TEEMA park initiative.

Liu explained that Mexico was the first country TEEMA approached because, among several nations contacted, Mexico was the first to express strong support for establishing a TEEMA park, thus becoming the inaugural country for TEEMA's international expansion.

After selecting the target country, TEEMA has set three core goals. First, all enterprises—regardless of size—should receive similar treatment within the overseas TEEMA parks. Second, a unified liaison window must be established within the park to help companies access local government resources. Third, the park should provide Taiwan-style living facilities, including daily necessities and entertainment, so that member companies' employees can adapt easily without concerns about cultural or lifestyle differences.
