Chunghwa Telecom (2412-TW) announced today (22) that it has signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Fujitsu Limited and its group company 1Finity Inc. to jointly promote the application of All-Photonic Network (APN) technology in Taiwan, explore the potential of quantum technologies in the region, and build next-generation digital infrastructure capable of supporting AI development.
Chunghwa Telecom stated that since 2024, it has been engaged in strategic collaboration with Fujitsu, continuing APN verification in Taiwan through 2026. This initiative is based on the IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) concept, leveraging Fujitsu’s accumulated technical expertise and practical experience from collaborations with Japanese telecommunications operators to conduct APN validation and technical research in Taiwan.
Chunghwa Telecom further noted that this MOU extends existing cooperation outcomes and includes 1Finity as a new participant, deepening the technical collaboration among the three parties.
The company explained that it will utilize its submarine cable systems to verify APN-related technologies and assess the feasibility of implementing distributed data centers via all-optical networks, addressing the challenges posed by rising network energy consumption and rapidly growing data traffic. Additionally, the three parties will jointly explore new opportunities in quantum technology, including evaluating its potential application in securing network control for distributed data centers.
