AI semiconductor technology stocks rebounded across the board after an early-month downturn, with previously hard-hit themes such as space satellite and cryptocurrency stocks also showing signs of stabilization and recovery. According to CMoney statistics, overseas equity ETFs across various themes are flourishing, with the total number of funds, including actively managed ones, reaching 97. Today’s top-performing ETFs were led by the First Financial Space Satellite ETF (00910-TW), up 4.78%, followed by Cathay Digital Payment Services ETF (00909-TW) rising 2.85%, and Nomura Rare Earth & Critical Resources ETF (009821-TW) gaining 2.7%. The only actively managed overseas ETF to make the top ten was Uni-President Global Innovation ETF (00988A-TW).

Market observers noted that this rebound in overseas equities has benefited multiple sectors rather than being concentrated in a single industry. However, the strongest gains were seen in themes that had experienced significant declines since the second half of the year, including space satellites, digital payments, and innovative technologies.

As global commercial launch costs continue to decline and governments increase spending on national defense and low-orbit satellite networks, the global space satellite sector is demonstrating strong operational visibility. Tseng Wan-sheng, portfolio manager of the First Financial Space Satellite ETF, explained that space-related indices and individual stocks reached historical highs at the end of May but subsequently underwent sharp corrections—over 40% from peak to trough—due to factors including the epic IPO of SpaceX, capital magnet effects from large corporations, profit-taking after speculative rallies, deleveraging, and valuation reassessments.

However, from a fundamental perspective, the sector’s underlying strength remains intact. Tseng analyzed that AST SpaceMobile (ASTS-US), the leader in direct-to-cell satellite connectivity, continues to secure commercialization agreements with major telecom operators worldwide, boosting market expectations for its revenue coverage. Meanwhile, space infrastructure provider Redwire (RDW-US), remote sensing data provider Satellogic (SATL-US), defense intelligence firm BlackSky (BKSY-US), and commercial launch leader Rocket Lab (RKLB-US) collectively cover the entire value chain—from satellite launch and manufacturing to downstream data services—indicating robust and sustained industry momentum.

Tseng emphasized that the global space economy is projected to surpass the US$1 trillion mark between 2030 and 2034. As commercial space technologies mature, the sector’s long-term fundamentals remain favorable. In the short term, tightly packed rocket and satellite launch schedules could bring unexpected developments or delays, potentially triggering sharp price swings in individual stocks. The 00910 ETF employs equal weighting and cross-border diversification, effectively mitigating stock volatility risks. Investors are advised to utilize dollar-cost averaging or staggered buying on pullbacks to position themselves early for the next wave of growth driven by global upgrades in satellite communications.

The First Financial Space Satellite ETF tracks the Solactive Space & Satellite Index, with constituent reviews and rebalancing conducted annually in February and August. Analysts anticipate that SpaceX is expected to be included in the index during the August review. Tseng warned that SpaceX may soon face a wave of share unlocks from employees and early investors, with the first tranche expected after the Q2 earnings release, around late July to early August. The initial release of 20%30% of employee-held shares could pressure the stock price. However, once this selling pressure subsides and passive fund buying resumes, investor positions will stabilize, supporting long-term price recovery and contributing to broader sector stability.
