Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China's Foreign Minister, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila on the 22nd (Wednesday), urging the U.S. side to respect China's core interests and effectively manage contradictions and differences.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Wang Yi stated that this year is a 'major year' for China-U.S. relations. The two heads of state met in Beijing, establishing the positioning of a constructive strategic stability relationship between the two countries and outlining a direction for joint efforts.

Wang Yi said this represents significant progress made by the two major powers in exploring peaceful coexistence, aligning with the fundamental interests of both peoples and meeting the shared expectations of the international community.

He emphasized that the current responsibility of China and the U.S. is to follow the path set by their leaders, eliminate interference, overcome obstacles, and ensure that the leaders' consensus is transformed into government-wide and cross-sectoral understanding and action. This would promote global peace and stability through strategic stability between the two nations and provide momentum for international cooperation through constructive interaction.

Wang Yi also clarified China's position on a series of recent negative statements and actions by the U.S., urging Washington to respect China's core interests, adhere to the one-China principle, properly manage differences, and address China's legitimate concerns.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional hotspot issues. They agreed that the meeting was pragmatic, positive, and constructive, and committed to jointly implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state, leveraging political and diplomatic channels, and preparing effectively for the next stage of high-level exchanges.
