Taiwan Cement (1101-TW) announced yesterday the official launch of its European listing plan, Project Arcadia, symbolizing a significant milestone in its strategic expansion into European capital markets. Today, Taiwan Cement's stock price defied a broad market plunge of 2,000 points, showing resilience and even reclaiming the 200-day moving average.
On the evening of the 27th, Chairman Chang An-ping and CEO Cheng Yao-hui held a virtual meeting with the first group of international investment banks and advisors to discuss listing strategies, timelines, and preparatory work. The plan will be formally submitted for review at the August board meeting, further advancing the company’s European capital market strategy.
Chairman Chang stated during the launch meeting that Project Arcadia represents Taiwan Cement’s ambition to present itself not merely as a cement company, but as an enterprise actively redefining the future of the building materials industry on the European platform.
He emphasized that while traditional industries often focus solely on production scale or financial performance, Taiwan Cement aims to demonstrate how innovation in technology, materials, and global deployment is building a future-oriented, low-carbon building materials ecosystem.
Chang stressed that for Taiwan Cement, the journey to net zero is not reliant on a single technology like carbon capture, but a long-term transformation encompassing energy transition, process optimization, development of alternative raw materials and fuels, and comprehensive innovation in business models.
Earlier in May, during its 80th-anniversary celebrations, Taiwan Cement first disclosed it was evaluating a European listing. The project name 'Arcadia' is derived from the ancient Greek region of Arcadia, which since the Renaissance has symbolized sustainability, an ideal life, and a utopian future in Western culture.
By naming its European listing initiative Arcadia, Taiwan Cement signifies its aspiration to collaborate with global partners in driving the building materials industry toward a lower-carbon, more innovative, and sustainable future. Through the exchange of Eastern and Western technologies, talent, and management expertise, the company aims to accelerate continuous innovation in production processes, product development, and business models, creating new value for the entire industry.
