Taiwan's stock market opened sharply lower today (29), triggering a broad sell-off across major stocks. The so-called 'Big Three' heavyweight stocks all fell sharply, and key stocks in popular sectors hit their daily trading limits again. As South Korea's market plunged over 5% during the session, Taiwan's market followed with a drop exceeding 1,200 points. It failed to hold the 41,000 level and hit a session low of 40,344, facing a critical defense of the 40,000-point mark. Trading volume is expected to surge significantly, reaching over one trillion NT dollars.

Asian markets declined collectively today, with Japan's Nikkei and South Korea's KOSPI both turning negative after opening higher, falling 1% and 5% respectively. Taiwan's market could not escape the selling pressure, with nearly 1,400 stocks declining and over 300 dropping more than 5%, while only about 400 stocks rose, indicating a clear dominance of selling over buying.

Heavyweight stocks turned deeply red. TSMC (2330-TW) (TSM-US), the market leader, dropped again to 2,245 NT dollars, down over 1%, marking its lowest level in nearly two months. Its market capitalization fell below the 59 trillion NT dollar threshold, contributing 240 points to the index's decline.

MediaTek (2454-TW) and Delta Electronics (2308-TW) both plunged around 7%. United Microelectronics (2303-TW) (UMC-US), ASE Holding (3711-TW) (ASX-US), and Unimicron (3037-TW) were all driven to their daily trading limits, reflecting intense selling pressure in the market.

Memory stocks once again became the focus of selling. Nanya Technology (2408-TW), Winbond Electronics (2344-TW), Aplus (6531-TW), Macronix (2337-TW), Etron (5351-TW), PSMC (3006-TW), ChipMOS (8150-TW), and Eonstar (8096-TW) all turned negative, signaling strong bearish sentiment in the sector.
