The market once plummeted over 2,200 points, breaking the 40,000-point mark. Only the optical lens and memory module groups resisted the decline. The index's decline narrowed in the late trading, closing at a drop of 1,564.18 points or 3.76%, at 40,039.18 points, marking the seventh-largest drop in history. The turnover was 1.08 trillion yuan. The three major institutions sold a total of 317.57 billion yuan. Foreign investors sold 222.52 billion yuan, proprietary traders sold 185.99 billion yuan, and investment trusts bought 90.94 billion yuan.
