Recent foreign media reports indicate that DeepSeek plans to build a 1GW AI data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, and intends to lease facilities from other companies to secure computing capacity. Ulanqab was selected due to its advantages in power and cooling costs, with an average annual temperature of around 4°C.

Bloomberg News reported on the 31st, citing sources, that part of DeepSeek's data center computing power is expected to become operational by the end of 2027 or early 2028. However, it remains unclear which chips the project will use, though this demonstrates that Chinese AI companies now have the capability to invest in hyperscale AI infrastructure comparable to their Silicon Valley counterparts.

According to reports, DeepSeek posted job openings in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, in April this year, including positions such as Senior Data Center Delivery Manager and Senior Data Center Operations and Maintenance Engineer.

The competition for computing resources is intensifying not only in the United States but also in China. In the U.S., companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are investing tens of billions of dollars in AI infrastructure, with project scales reaching 3GW and 5GW, while China's current scale is 1GW.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang previously estimated that building a 1GW data center equipped with cutting-edge AI semiconductors would cost approximately $50 billion.

Currently, companies such as China Mobile have established data centers in Ulanqab, and over 10 companies are advancing data center projects in the region.
