The Taiwan stock market surged 3186.45 points today, marking the largest single-day gain in history. Foreign investors bought back NT$67.554 billion, investment trusts continued buying with NT$33.382 billion, while proprietary traders sold NT$16.26 billion. The three major institutional investors collectively recorded a net buy of NT$84.676 billion. However, foreign investors increased their futures short positions by 4,292 contracts to 82,500 contracts.
On the final trading day of July, the Taiwan stock market posted a strong rally with significant foreign institutional buying, resulting in a 3186.45-point gain and narrowing the month's decline to 3006.16 points. Foreign investors' net sell for the month reached NT$738.926 billion.
Notably, TSMC received a net buy of 13,700 lots from foreign investors and 7,047 lots from investment trusts, totaling over 20,000 lots. Foreign investors also bought 49,800 lots of Hon Hai and 3,505 lots from investment trusts. KGI Securities and Yuanta Financial were also jointly bought by foreign and domestic institutional investors. Conversely, Winbond faced net selling from both foreign and domestic institutions.
Foreign investors heavily purchased ETFs, led by Yuanta Taiwan Equity Growth (00981A) with 374,400 lots, followed by Fubon Future 50 (00991A) with 340,900 lots, United Rising 50 (00403A) with 169,100 lots, and Capital Securities Tech Innovation (00992A) with 106,700 lots. Additionally, they bought 84,100 lots of Yuanta Taiwan 50 (0050) and 51,600 lots of Yuanta Taiwan 50 Bull 2 (00631L), and increased holdings in aviation leaders EVA Airways by 40,000 lots and China Airlines by 37,700 lots.
In terms of net selling, mature-process wafer foundries were targeted, including UMC (2303) with 21,600 lots sold, World with 6,433 lots, and Powerchip with 3,878 lots. Panel stocks such as Innolux (12,500 lots) and CPT (8,933 lots) were also sold. Other electronic stocks sold include CNS (15,500 lots), Delta Electronics (6,105 lots), Strong Micro (7,867 lots), Winbond (6,622 lots), Chipbond, Quanta, and ADLINK, each exceeding 4,000 lots.
Foreign investors also significantly reduced positions in petrochemical stocks, including Formosa Plastics (14,500 lots), Formosa Chemicals (9,623 lots), Formosa Chemical & Fibre (8,349 lots), CNFC (11,300 lots), Hoton (6,655 lots), and Sinon (3,947 lots).
