Asian equities launched a retaliatory rebound today (March 31), as previously weak markets in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea surged simultaneously. In Taiwan, within less than an hour of opening, as many as nine active Taiwan stock ETFs successively hit intraday limit-up, marking a historic moment for Taiwan’s ETF market. Financial institutions noted that recent declines in Taiwan’s margin debt have helped stabilize shareholding structures, making the market more responsive to positive news and facilitating a rebound in investor sentiment.

The Taiwan stock market surged nearly 3,000 points at one point, setting a record for the largest single-day point gain in history. AI-related stocks fully rebounded, driving strong intraday gains in active ETFs such as: - Uni-President Taiwan Growth (00981A-TW) - Fuhwa Future 50 (00991A-TW) - Capital Group Technology Innovation (00992A-TW) - Taishin Advantage Growth (00987A-TW) - Mega International Taiwan Harvest (00996A-TW) - CTBC Taiwan Excellence (00995A-TW) - Allianz Taiwan (00993A-TW) - Capital Group Taiwan Power (00982A-TW) - Nomura Taiwan Select (00980A-TW)

CTBC Taiwan Excellence (00995A-TW) fund manager Zhang Shutin stated that Microsoft’s Azure cloud business growth exceeded market expectations, effectively easing investor concerns over poor AI investment returns and excessive capital spending. This triggered a broad rebound in global tech stocks and further boosted investor confidence in the long-term development of the AI industry.

Zhang pointed out that although the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) maintains a hawkish stance and geopolitical risks have not been fully eliminated, current corporate earnings reports and industry outlooks show no clear signs of deterioration in corporate profits or AI demand. He noted that the recent market correction was primarily driven by valuation and sentiment adjustments, not fundamental weakening.

He further stated that with margin debt clearly declining and shareholding structures becoming healthier, coupled with continued expansion of AI-related capital expenditures by global tech giants, the medium- to long-term bullish trend for Taiwan equities remains intact. Going forward, investors should closely monitor corporate earnings, the scale of AI capital spending, and international oil price movements as key indicators for whether the market rally can be sustained.
