YFY Biotech discovered through internal testing that a specific batch of its sold 'Locally Sourced Jinhua Xiaoguo Camellia Oil' showed abnormalities, immediately reported to regulatory authorities, and initiated a halt in sales, full product recall, and recovery operations. The company is also offering consumers full refunds and equivalent shopping credits as compensation. YFY Biotech is currently cooperating with regulatory authorities to clarify the cause and will publicly disclose subsequent progress.
YFY Biotech explained that the procurement partner for this product is Weiga International, which is responsible for the supply chain management of camellia seed raw materials, arrangement of oil processing, and delivery of camellia oil products.
YFY Biotech stated that prior to cooperation, it conducted on-site visits to contracted farmers in Laiji Village, Alishan Township, Chiayi County, operated by Weiga International, to confirm actual growing environments and production conditions. Two specific cultivation areas were inspected, measuring 0.7 hectares and 1.2 hectares respectively. After confirming cultivation practices, raw material conditions, and the annual harvest cycle of Taiwan's Jinhua Xiaoguo camellia seeds, YFY Biotech obtained a formal product statement from Weiga International, certifying that the raw material sources and production conditions of the commissioned camellia oil meet the above criteria, before commencing cooperation.
YFY Biotech mentioned that supplier and product origin management is conducted based on on-site origin inspections, supplier written declarations, procurement agreements, raw material delivery records, and product delivery logs. The relevant camellia farmers and oil mills are raw material suppliers and processing partners within Weiga International's supply chain.
Regarding edible oil safety management, different types of cooking oils have corresponding food safety monitoring items established according to their raw material characteristics, manufacturing methods, and risks. Benzo[a]pyrene is one of the oil safety testing items. YFY Biotech emphasized that it does not rely solely on a single test result but formulates food safety monitoring plans based on the actual risks of each oil type, covering raw materials, processing, and finished products.
To strengthen edible oil safety management, YFY Biotech will improve practices in three areas: testing, manufacturing processes, and supplier management. First, it will require edible oil suppliers to provide合格 inspection reports including benzo[a]pyrene for each batch, only allowing procurement or sale after confirming compliance with food safety standards.
Second, benzo[a]pyrene will be included in internal testing with increased testing frequency. Third, on-site audits and process reviews at manufacturers will be strengthened, including raw material drying methods, heat source usage, roasting temperatures, pressing processes, equipment cleaning, storage conditions, and production line changeover records.
YFY Biotech stated that its currently sold high-smoke-point sunflower oil, Extra Virgin olive oil, cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil, cold-pressed flaxseed oil, cold-pressed avocado oil, cold-pressed chia seed oil, Japan Kuki Fragrant Sesame Oil, cold-pressed raw perilla oil, and Family Tradition Cold-Pressed Black Sesame Oil have all completed third-party internal testing, with results conforming to food safety and hygiene standards.
