Local National Taxation Bureaus under the Ministry of Finance simultaneously processed the first batch of comprehensive income tax refunds for the 114th fiscal year (2025) today (31st). A total of over 3.64 million refund cases were processed nationwide, amounting to over NT$61 billion in refunds. Compared to the 113th fiscal year, this represents an increase of over 20,000 cases and an additional NT$2.5 billion in refund amounts—setting a new historical high. The Ministry urges eligible individuals to check their bank accounts promptly to confirm successful deposits.
The Taipei National Taxation Bureau further explained that the first batch of refund cases covers three main groups of taxpayers. First, those who completed their tax filings entirely via online submission. Second, individuals who qualified for the tax amount estimation service and confirmed their data online or via telephone voice systems. Third, those who met the eligibility criteria for tax estimation and submitted written confirmation to their local tax bureau by May 11. All of these cases are included in this initial disbursement.
Regarding refund collection methods, the tax authorities emphasized that direct deposit is the safest and fastest option. Refund amounts will be directly transferred into the taxpayer’s designated bank account on July 31. However, approximately 1.48% of taxpayers did not opt for direct deposit. For these individuals, paper tax refund vouchers have been issued and are being mailed via registered mail. Recipients are advised to redeem their vouchers before the expiration date of September 30.
For paper voucher redemption details: If the voucher amount is under NT$5,000, individuals may present their national ID card, personal seal, and the voucher at the designated Taiwan Bank branch to receive cash.
If the amount is between NT$5,000 and NT$20,000, the voucher must be deposited into a financial institution or post office account for clearance.
For vouchers valued at NT$20,000 or more, endorsement transfer is legally prohibited. The voucher must be deposited directly into the recipient’s financial or postal savings account.
To improve future refund efficiency, the tax authorities strongly recommend using the direct deposit option when filing tax returns. By providing a personal bank account, taxpayers can receive funds faster, eliminate risks of lost or fraudulently claimed paper vouchers, and avoid time spent queuing at financial institutions—making it a highly convenient option.
Finally, the authorities issued a fraud alert, emphasizing that they will never call taxpayers to instruct ATM transfers for tax refunds. For any inquiries, individuals should call the toll-free hotline 0800-000321 or contact their local tax office directly.
