Taiwan's stock market in July resembled a rollercoaster, plunging over 3,000 points for the month. Despite the turbulence, investor interest in ETFs continued to rise. According to the latest statistics, the number of ETFs with more than one million investors has expanded to six across the market. In addition to traditional market-cap and high-dividend ETFs, actively managed ETFs—promoting "active stock selection and pursuit of excess returns"—are gaining momentum. Active Uni Upgrade 50 (00403A-TW) and Active Uni Taiwan Growth (00981A-TW) have both surpassed the one million investor mark, with monthly growth rates of 4.4% and 3.1% respectively, demonstrating exceptional popularity.
Analyzing the latest ETF investor count data, the six funds in the "Million Club" reflect a three-way split among market-cap, high-dividend, and active ETFs. Mega Taiwan 50 (0050-TW) and Mega High Dividend (0056-TW) are veteran ETFs with over a decade or two of history, having steadily built a loyal investor base. Meanwhile, active ETFs are rapidly gaining popularity due to their proven ability to outperform the broader market.
Looking at investor count changes in July, the "buy the dip" mentality is evident. 0050 added 324,500 investors in a single month, a 10.0% monthly increase—the highest among the group. 0056 followed with 91,000 new investors (5.8% growth), confirming that veteran ETFs remain the top choice for capital inflows. Moreover, active ETFs showed remarkable growth: 00403A gained 44,000 investors (4.4% increase), while 00981A added 29,000 investors (3.1% increase), both outpacing high-dividend ETFs in growth momentum. These active funds are becoming the new favorites for investors navigating market volatility and seeking long-term capital appreciation.
Looking ahead, the Uni-Investment Taiwan Research Team suggests that the third quarter's volatility presents a mid-to-long-term investment opportunity. Investors should focus on sectors where valuations have already corrected, such as AI servers, high-end CCL, ABF substrates, test interfaces, and thermal solutions supply chains. A recovery in market sentiment in the fourth quarter could reignite a growth rally.
