According to Seeking Alpha, U.S. investment bank Wedbush stated that TSMC (TSM-US) (2330-TW) is advancing its 3-nanometer process capacity expansion approximately 2 to 3 months faster than originally anticipated.
The world's largest semiconductor foundry currently expects to increase its monthly 3nm wafer starts to 180,000 by the beginning of the fourth quarter of this year. This capacity growth is primarily driven by order demand from key clients including NVIDIA (NVDA-US), AMD (AMD-US), and Broadcom (AVGO-US). In comparison, TSMC's 3nm monthly wafer starts are projected to be around 150,000 in the first half of 2026.
In a research report, Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson noted, "Regarding the 2nm process, we estimate monthly wafer starts to reach approximately 50,000 to 60,000 in the first half of 2026, increasing to over 80,000 by early Q4 and nearing 100,000 by year-end. This would bring combined monthly wafer starts for 2nm and 3nm processes to over 260,000."
He further added, "If this information proves accurate, it reaffirms TSMC's previously expressed optimism regarding 2nm demand and supports the company's positive outlook for the second half of the year, with sales momentum expected to accelerate."
Buoyed by the news, TSMC's ADR rose 2.7% on Tuesday, April 4.
