VR hardware and software integrator HTC (2498-TW) announced its second-quarter financial results today. The company reported a net loss of NT$280 million in Q2, representing a wider loss compared to the previous quarter but a narrowed loss compared to the same period last year, with earnings per share (EPS) at -NT$0.33. HTC continues to expand its AI glasses strategy and has recently partnered with Japan's KDDI to officially enter the Japanese market.
HTC's Q2 revenue reached NT$610 million, down 5.9% quarter-on-quarter and 11.6% year-on-year. Gross margin improved to 42.6%, up 0.9 percentage points from the previous quarter and 6.2 percentage points year-on-year. Operating loss was NT$570 million, widened from the prior quarter but narrowed from the same period last year. Operating margin stood at -93.2%, down 7.0 percentage points quarter-on-quarter but improved by 27.0 percentage points year-on-year. Net loss was NT$280 million, with EPS at -NT$0.33.
For the first half of the year, HTC reported cumulative revenue of NT$1.27 billion, down 9.7% year-on-year. Gross margin was 42.1%, up 5.1 percentage points year-on-year. Operating loss was NT$1.13 billion, narrowed from the same period last year. Operating margin was -89.6%, improved by 51.5 percentage points year-on-year. Net loss was NT$520 million, turning from profit to loss compared to the same period last year, with EPS at -NT$0.62.
HTC's AI smart glasses, VIVE Eagle, officially launched in Japan through a partnership with KDDI. The device is now available via KDDI's au +1 collection, sold and showcased at KDDI and Okinawa Cellular flagship stores, au Online Shop, and designated retail channels, further expanding HTC's presence in Japan's AI wearable market.
HTC's VIVE Arts collaborated with the Musée National Picasso-Paris and French immersive content studio Lucid Realities to launch a new XR experience titled "The Metamorphosis of Guernica." The exhibition, hosted at the Musée National Picasso-Paris, uses immersive technology to guide audiences through the creative background, historical context, and era significance behind Picasso's iconic masterpiece.
HTC's VIVERSE, in partnership with Taiwan's Ministry of Culture and international immersive content team Wevr, unveiled a multi-user, walk-through XR experience titled "Call of the Sea." Set in Taiwan's marine environment, the experience leverages large-scale, free-roaming XR technology to immerse audiences in the profound connection between Taiwan and the ocean, blending cultural content, marine education, and location-based entertainment.
HTC's G REIGNS successfully completed end-to-end Open RAN solution integration and lab validation with Taiwan-based communications technology supplier Tayih Technology and Alaska-based telecom provider Microcom. This milestone lays the foundation for future expansion into the U.S. market and remote area communications deployment.
