Positive developments in U.S.-Iran negotiations, coupled with declining international oil prices, led to broad gains across all four major U.S. stock indices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 both hit new all-time highs, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index surged over 6%, fueling a strong rally in Taiwan's stock market on the morning of the 5th. The market soared more than 1,400 points, peaking at 44,773.87, surpassing the 44,000 mark and recovering both the monthly and quarterly moving averages. Estimated trading volume reached TWD 1.35 trillion.
Since hitting a low of 39,404 points on July 31st, the market has recovered over 5,300 points in just five trading sessions, representing a rebound of approximately 13.6%.
Today, large-cap electronics stocks rose across the board with strong momentum. TSMC (2330-TW) opened at NT$2,385, up over 2%, Hon Hai (2317-TW) gained over 3%, and MediaTek (2454-TW) rose nearly half a limit-up. Additionally, United Microelectronics (2303-TW) climbed over 4%, Delta Electronics (2308-TW) over 3%, while Quanta Computer (2382-TW) and ASE Technology (3711-TW) both rose over 2%.
The PCB sector remained strong today, with the three ABF substrate leaders advancing. ChipMOS (3189-TW) surged nearly half a limit-up, Unimicron (3037-TW) and Nanya PCB (8046-TW) both rose over 4%. Moreover, Ta-iyo Yuden (6274-TW) hit the daily trading limit, while Zhen Ding-KY (4958-TW), Wusum (2313-TW), and LAM (6213-TW) each gained over half a limit-up. Kinpo Electronics (2368-TW) rose over 3%, and Taiguen PCB (2383-TW) posted gains exceeding 1%.
The memory sector also saw broad gains, with Elitegroup (3006-TW) hitting the upper limit. Winbond (2344-TW) and Powerchip (6770-TW) surged over half a limit-up, Nanya Technology (2408-TW) gained over 4%, Phison (8299-TW) and Team Group (4967-TW) rose over 3%, while Macronix (2337-TW) and ADATA (3260-TW) posted gains between 1% and 2%.
All four major U.S. indices closed higher: the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 907.47 points (1.71%) to close at 54,085.88; the Nasdaq Composite gained 671.01 points (2.59%) to 26,584.99; the S&P 500 increased 136.02 points (1.79%) to 7,736.52; and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index jumped 748.91 points (6.55%) to 12,179.26.
