According to insider sources, since Jaymie Waller assumed the role of chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed), President Trump has engaged in multiple phone calls with her, preserving a channel of communication between the president and the Fed chair—an approach that diverges from recent practice.

As reported by The Washington Post on Wednesday the 5th, anonymous sources revealed that the pattern of communication between Trump and Waller has been episodic: at times involving multiple contacts over consecutive days, followed by extended periods without contact.

Some informed individuals stated that Trump has consulted Waller on a range of issues, including military developments concerning Iran and the economic impact of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence.

It remains unclear whether Trump and Waller have discussed monetary policy. One source familiar with their conversations said that since Waller’s confirmation by the U.S. Senate, Trump has never mentioned interest rates.

Waller has served as Fed chair for less than three months. On January 30, Trump announced his nomination of Waller as the next Fed chair. On May 22, Waller was sworn into office during a ceremony at the White House.

Notably, Trump repeatedly criticized former Fed Chair Powell. He consistently urged the Fed to lower interest rates to stimulate the economy and reduce government borrowing costs. Dissatisfied with the Fed's failure to cut rates aggressively, Trump repeatedly called for Powell’s resignation.
