Taiwan's stock market on the previous trading day (August 5) surged with explosive volume, boosted by strong U.S. tech stocks. The market opened higher as TSMC and large-cap stocks gapped up, rising to 43,809.83 points early, then continued climbing to a high of 44,980.31 points—near the 45,000-point level. It closed up 1,250.94 points (+2.88%) at 44,611.60 points, with trading value in the centralized market surging to NT$1.187497 trillion (approximately NT$1.19 trillion). The OTC Index also rose strongly by 8.72 points (+2.33%), closing at 383.75 points.

I. Market Analysis

Fueled by strong AI megacap stocks in the U.S., Taiwan’s centralized market saw institutional investors collectively buy NT$100.406 billion on the previous trading day. Foreign institutions alone bought a massive NT$90.308 billion—the highest single-day buy volume recently—showing strong determination to rebuild positions in large-cap stocks. Trust corporations bought NT$8.638 billion, while proprietary traders bought NT$1.457 billion (self-trading sold short NT$2.327 billion, hedging trades bought NT$3.784 billion). In contrast, institutional investors sold a net NT$5.516 billion in listed stocks on the OTC market (foreigners sold NT$2.98 billion, trusts sold NT$1.468 billion). The broad market showed strong momentum in both price and volume, maintaining a bullish uptrend in the near term.

II. Strong Industries

Niche Memory IC Sector (average +8.63%): As the world’s three major memory chipmakers shifted capacity entirely toward HBM and high-end DDR5, spot and contract prices for DDR3/DDR4 and Flash surged sharply. With the launch of edge AI devices and peak season inventory buildup for consumer electronics, Etron (5351) posted four consecutive days of limit-up gains, closing at NT$96.5; Elitegroup Computer Systems (3006-TW) rose 8.97% to NT$237; Aptina (6531-TW) gained 6.70% to NT$414.

Gallium Arsenide & Optical Communication Sector (average +7.47%): Demand for high-speed optical transmission (CPO / 800G / 1.6T) in AI servers exploded, coupled with the smartphone PA amplifier restocking season starting, significantly increasing industry utilization rates. Walsin Technology (3163-TW) surged 9.84% to NT$212; Chrontel (2455-TW) rose 7.88% to NT$198.5; Antenova (8086-TW) gained 6.97% to NT$153.5; Universe (4991-TW) jumped 9.77% to NT$118.

Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) Sector (average +6.60%): High-end AI servers and switches adopting high-layer-count, large-area materials have doubled the consumption of Ultra Low-DK CCL, driving ASP and gross margin growth. Laminated (6213-TW) hit the daily limit at NT$138.5; Ta-iyo (6274-TW) rose 7.04% to NT$228; Tatung Electronics (2383-TW) gained 5.38% to NT$685.

Robotics & Automation Sector (average +6.54%): With the Global Robot Expo approaching and humanoid robot ecosystem collaborations gaining traction, industrial automation rush orders are flooding in. HIWIN (2049) opened high and surged to the daily limit at NT$315; Solomon (2359-TW) rose 8.84% to NT$178.5; Airtac-KY (1590-TW) gained 4.09% to NT$1,145, reclaiming the thousand-dollar mark.

III. Weak Industries

Weaving & Textile Apparel Sector (average -0.83%): Orders from Western brand clients turned cautious, upstream textile suppliers face seasonal slowdown pressure, and electronic stock capital allocation has crowded out funds, causing the sector to pull back. Far Eastern New Century (1476-TW) fell 1.45% to NT$542; South Taiwan Spinning (1440-TW) dropped 0.84% to NT$17.8.

Container Shipping Sector (average -0.69%): SCFI freight rates corrected slightly from highs, market digestion of Mediterranean and Red Sea rerouting effects reduced rate-hike catalysts, resulting in flat sector performance. Evergreen (2603-TW) dipped 0.68% to NT$218.5; Yang Ming (2609-TW) fell 0.81% to NT$73.2; Wan Hai (2615-TW) edged down 0.58% to NT$86.1.
