Following Giant (9921-TW), bicycle manufacturer Merida (6804-TW) has also resolved to execute a share buyback of 1,000 treasury shares at a price below NT$23 per share starting October 10. The purpose is to transfer shares to employees. Both Giant and Merida's share buybacks are the first since their listings.
Merida's share buyback, effective from October 10, will be conducted at a price range of NT$16 to NT$23 per share. If the stock price falls below NT$16, the company will continue purchasing until the full 1,000 shares are acquired. Once completed, the buyback will represent 2.11% of the company's total shares.
On October 7, Merida announced its Q2 2026 financial results: revenue reached NT$3.64 billion, with a gross margin of 13.94%, up 5.73 percentage points quarter-on-quarter and 6.56 percentage points year-on-year. Net profit after tax was NT$9.77 million, a 32.15% increase from the previous quarter and a turnaround from a loss in the same period last year. Earnings per share (EPS) stood at NT$0.21.
For the first half of 2026, Merida reported revenue of NT$784 million, a gross margin of 10.88% (up 3.5 percentage points year-on-year), and net profit after tax of NT$17.17 million, turning profitable compared to a loss in the same period last year. EPS for the first half was NT$0.38.
Meanwhile, Giant recently completed its buyback of 4,000 treasury shares at an average price of NT$71.75 per share, representing 1.02% of its total shares.
Giant's Q2 2026 revenue returned to growth, reaching NT$16.67 billion, a 5.8% year-on-year increase. Gross margin stood at 24.2%. Net profit after tax was NT$630 million, a 234% year-on-year surge, with EPS at NT$1.62. For the first half of 2026, revenue totaled NT$29.19 billion, gross margin was 22.3% (up 3.2 percentage points year-on-year), net profit after tax was NT$435 million, and EPS was NT$1.11.
