Citrini Research, the market analysis firm that gained fame for predicting the apocalyptic impact of artificial intelligence (AI), has now turned its attention to the cybersecurity industry. The firm believes that as AI agent technology rapidly proliferates, corporate demand for cybersecurity protection will surge significantly, positioning cybersecurity stocks as among the biggest beneficiaries of this AI wave.

According to a report by Business Insider, Citrini stated in its latest research that the pace of AI technological evolution is so fast that enterprises are now more urgently seeking to strengthen their network defense systems than ever before.

The report bluntly states that most cybersecurity vendors are experiencing a "rare expansion opportunity," with client budgets clearly shifting toward information security. At the same time, however, AI brings a new concern: the risk that some cybersecurity services could become easily replaceable "commoditized" products.

In fact, as early as 2025, cybersecurity experts predicted that geopolitical tensions would drive increased U.S. investment in cybersecurity.

Citrini believes this trend is now being validated within the AI boom, citing recent suspicions that an OpenAI-affiliated model breached Hugging Face's system as an example of how AI technology itself has become one of the sources of security risk.

Citrini further notes: "In the short term, AI will trigger a cybersecurity boom, as AI models uncover vast numbers of existing vulnerabilities and significantly enhance the capabilities of malicious attackers. At the same time, AI's acceleration of software development will expand software complexity and the attack surface faster than AI can eliminate threats."

Based on this assessment, Citrini has identified six stocks expected to benefit from AI-driven growth in cybersecurity demand:

- F5 (FFIV-US): Up 61% year-to-date - Zscaler (ZS-US): Down 24% year-to-date - Fortinet (FTNT-US): Up 105% year-to-date - Netskope (NTSK-US): Down 19% year-to-date - Cloudflare (NET-US): Up 58% year-to-date - Palo Alto Networks (PANW-US): Up 99% year-to-date

Many of these stocks were already highlighted in Citrini's analysis report last month as potential winners in the next phase of AI.

However, the firm admits that the pace of industry evolution has turned out to be much faster than originally anticipated.

Regarding individual stock performance, Citrini believes that while F5 has not fully emphasized its leading position in the AI era through external marketing, its strong positioning in "hardware-native security" makes it one of the firm's top picks.

For the other cybersecurity stocks on its recommended list, Citrini believes that as "Zero Trust Network Access" (ZTNA) becomes a market focal point, investment opportunities will emerge for related companies.

The core principle of this security model is that all AI agents, devices, and users must be authenticated. Since the hacking incident involving OpenAI's Hugging Face, the importance of ZTNA has gained even greater attention.

Citrini believes this incident proves that as AI agents become more widespread, the market needs to further strengthen privacy and security controls.

The company states: "Following this logic, ZTNA providers like Cloudflare, Zscaler, and Netskope could be the most significantly AI-benefited companies in the entire cybersecurity industry. As the number of AI agents increases, so does the number of connections that need monitoring, directly benefiting these companies' businesses."

Citrini further points out that Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet are in a favorable position at the intersection of two major trends: cybersecurity and AI.

These companies not only benefit from rising cybersecurity demand but also possess a layer of cybersecurity "execution-level" infrastructure that is unlikely to be replaced by AI in the short term, making them relatively resistant to AI-driven disruption.
