On October 10, the Taiwan stock market rose 702.85 points to close at 44,928.76, regaining the quarterly moving average. The three major institutional investors collectively bought TWD 73.167 billion. Foreign investors turned net buyers in the cash market with TWD 51.7 billion, but increased their net short positions in futures by 1,306 contracts, reaching 89,200 contracts. In the cash market, foreign investors heavily bought China Steel (CSC) with 64,000 lots, while selling airline and financial stocks.
Besides China Steel, foreign investors also bought Huayin New Material (32,100 lots), container shipping leaders including Yang Ming (12,100 lots), Wan Hai (10,200 lots), and Evergreen (9,012 lots), along with ETFs such as Yuanta High Dividend (0056) with 27,000 lots and United Rising 50 (00403A) with 22,500 lots.
Among electronic stocks, foreign investors bought Innolux (48,100 lots), Nanya Technology (30,500 lots), United Microelectronics Corporation (27,000 lots), Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (19,000 lots), Etron Technology (12,800 lots), Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn) subsidiary Hongteng (10,100 lots), Acer (9,892 lots), and Wistron (9,682 lots).
The top sell-off was China Airlines with 78,300 lots sold. Foreign investors also sold Starlux Airlines (6,592 lots), adjusted positions in Nanya Plastics (22,700 lots), E Ink Holdings (9,049 lots), Holtek Semiconductor (8,247 lots), and Jin Jyue Enterprise (6,146 lots). Among ETFs, Fubon Future 50 (00991A) was the most heavily sold with 16,100 lots.
Foreign investors also heavily sold financial stocks: First Financial Holding (17,900 lots), Hua Nan Financial Holding (14,000 lots), Taiwan Business Bank (13,600 lots),兆豐 International Holding (10,600 lots), Hua Nan Financial Holding (10,500 lots), E.Sun Financial Holding (9,389 lots), Bank of Taichung (6,400 lots), and Capital Securities (5,971 lots).
