VinSpace, a space subsidiary of Vietnam's largest private conglomerate Vingroup, has announced that it has signed its first satellite launch contract with SpaceX. The company plans to launch its self-developed nanosatellite into orbit in the second quarter of 2027 through SpaceX's 'Rideshare' program.
According to the announcement, VinSpace will be responsible for the satellite's design, manufacturing, and mission management. This launch is considered a key milestone for the company to enhance its core technological capabilities and build Vietnam's 'space ecosystem'.
Founded in November 2025 and controlled by Vingroup's founder Pham Nhat Vuong, VinSpace specializes in developing 'Made in Vietnam' nanosatellites for telecommunications, remote sensing, and socio-economic applications.
Reuters reported that this is not the first collaboration between Vietnam and SpaceX. In March of this year, the educational pocket CubeSat 'VegaFly-1', developed by Vietnam's Vega Institute of Space and Earth Observation, successfully launched aboard SpaceX's 'Falcon 9' rocket.
Previously, Vietnamese satellites primarily relied on European Arianespace and Japanese rockets for launch, including the country's first satellite Vinasat-1 in 2008, followed by Vinasat-2 and VNREDSat-1a.
The decision by VinSpace to choose SpaceX's rideshare service reflects Vietnam's active efforts to reduce the cost and barriers to space access, accelerating the development of its commercial space industry.
With private companies like VinSpace entering the field, Vietnam is transitioning from early-stage, internationally dependent educational and research missions toward self-developed satellite projects with commercial potential, injecting new momentum into Southeast Asia's emerging space market.
