Rumors suggest Apple is preparing a completely new design for the iPhone 20 Pro series to mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone's launch. The iPhone 20 Pro series is expected to maintain the existing screen aspect ratio while increasing the display area, and achieve a 'borderless' visual effect through specially shaped curved glass.
On Wednesday, Chinese social media leaker 'Digital Chat Station' stated that the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max, codenamed V73 and V74, will feature slightly larger screens than their predecessors, though the aspect ratio will not change significantly.
According to previous reports, Apple (AAPL-US) is testing two display sizes—6.4 inches and 7.0 inches—for use in the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max, respectively. In comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have screen sizes of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, suggesting the new models may each increase by 0.1 inches.
This design does not involve using a curved display panel directly. Leaked information indicates that the iPhone 20 Pro series may retain a flat screen while covering it with a specially shaped quad-curved glass layer. This glass would use optical refraction to blur the screen's edges, creating a visual effect where the bezels are nearly invisible from all sides.
In other words, the rumored 'borderless' look is primarily a visual illusion created by the glass shape and light refraction, not necessarily an indication that physical bezels have disappeared entirely.
Similar rumors have surfaced multiple times before. In July, 'Digital Chat Station' mentioned that the iPhone 20 Pro series might adopt 6.4-inch and 7.0-inch displays. In April, the same source revealed that Apple was considering using 'quad-micro curved' OLED panels. Another Weibo leaker, 'DingJiao Digital,' recently reiterated that the new models may extensively use glass materials and incorporate design elements from the iPhone Air.
However, the iPhone 20 Pro is still some time away from official unveiling, and none of the specifications have been confirmed by Apple. The accuracy of Weibo leaks varies, although 'Digital Chat Station' has had a relatively reliable track record in the past. Still, these reports should currently be treated as market rumors.
This leak also contrasts with recent comments from Jefferies analysts. Jefferies suggested Apple may have canceled its all-glass iPhone plan for the 20th anniversary due to manufacturing challenges. However, multiple recent supply chain rumors continue to point toward design directions involving higher glass usage, quad-curved surfaces, and borderless visuals, suggesting these concepts may not have been entirely abandoned.
