Taiwanese consumption power continues to be strong! The latest credit card financial data released by Taiwan's five major card issuers for 2026 shows that due to the impact of the comprehensive income tax being deferred until July and concentrated in the accounts, the total card transaction amount for the five major issuers in July this year was 3,332 billion NT dollars, showing a seasonal decline compared to June. The cumulative card transaction amount reached 2.45 trillion NT dollars, up 18.46% year-on-year, with each major bank setting new records for the first seven months. China Trust Bank has reclaimed the single-month 'Card Usage King' and 'Card Issuance King' titles.
Compared to June, due to the effect of card payments for comprehensive income tax, the single-month card transaction amounts for each major bank all showed a decreasing trend. China Trust Bank's July credit card transaction amount reached 903.55 billion NT dollars, with card issuance exceeding 109,000 cards. The main growth drivers were taxes, travel, retail, and overseas consumption.
Chinatrust Commercial Bank's July card transaction amount exceeded 803 billion NT dollars, ranking second. Excluding the comprehensive income tax factor, general consumption maintained steady growth. The summer overseas travel, department store shopping, and dining consumption were particularly notable. Notably, Chinatrust Commercial Bank had 470,000 cards suspended in a single month due to the expiration of the Formosa Plastics Group co-branded card contract on July 31, 2026, and the card was discontinued starting August 1. Chinatrust Commercial Bank issued the CUBE credit card, providing a new 'Formosa Plastics Family' benefits plan for seamless transition.
E.SUN Bank's July transaction amount was 570.51 billion NT dollars, mainly benefiting from the summer vacation travel season driving overseas physical consumption, as well as the continuous improvement in the penetration rate of online shopping and mobile payments. Taipei Fubon Bank's July transaction amount reached 550.15 billion NT dollars, with card usage growth driven mainly by travel and retail, accounting for nearly 40% of consumption. Taiwan Business Bank's July card transaction amount reached 504.60 billion NT dollars, with significant growth in insurance, overseas, and travel consumption.
Looking at the cumulative card transaction amount for the first seven months, the performance of the five major card issuers was extremely impressive, demonstrating the strong consumption resilience of the Taiwanese credit card market. China Trust Bank's credit card transaction amount for the first seven months reached 6,457.36 billion NT dollars (if including financial cards, the total transaction amount reached 7,284 billion NT dollars), up 24% year-on-year, maintaining its market-leading position.
Chinatrust Commercial Bank followed closely with 5,726.22 billion NT dollars, up 17% year-on-year. E.SUN Bank ranked third with 4,705.47 billion NT dollars; Taipei Fubon Bank reached 3,893.63 billion NT dollars; and Taiwan Business Bank also submitted a new high of 3,751.48 billion NT dollars for the year.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year's consumption trends, major banks are mostly focusing on overseas travel, digital consumption, and department store anniversary sales as core scenarios. China Trust Bank is deeply cultivating a diverse ecosystem, offering exclusive rebates covering travel, food reservations, and concert ticket purchases for the summer and back-to-school seasons.
Chinatrust Commercial Bank is focusing on the CUBE platform's points and digital service ecosystem, and with the fourth quarter iPhone new machine launch, Double 11, and holiday periods, it is expected to welcome another wave of consumption peak. E.SUN Bank is promoting the Unicard and Kumamon dual-currency card, combining selected benefits from over 40 travel agencies and airlines, while positioning for the Mid-Autumn Festival and the second half of the year's travel season.
Taipei Fubon Bank is targeting the Mid-Autumn and Double Ten holiday travel rush, offering overseas drugstore, department store, and consumer installment payment benefits, strengthening precise customer management. Taiwan Business Bank continues to target the young demographic's 'Chill Spending' gathering and star-chasing scenarios with the Richart card, and offers up to 19% in various rebate boosts for the summer and trips to Japan.
