Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again made strong remarks regarding control over the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the United States will soon declare the waterway as American territory after 'completely defeating Iran'.
Speaking at a rally in Long Island, New York, on Friday (14th), Trump addressed the military situation with Iran, claiming that Iran is currently suffering a 'crushing defeat'. He asserted that once the U.S. defeats Iran, it will declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory.
Trump briefly chuckled while making the statement but quickly emphasized, 'This is real.'
Trump has recently continued to claim that the U.S. already controls the Strait of Hormuz. On the 12th, he posted on social media that the U.S. 'fully controls' the Strait, and Iran is 'powerless' to respond.
However, a spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated on the 13th that the Strait remains under Iranian control and that no vessel can safely pass through without Iran’s permission.
Facing domestic pressure over rising fuel prices, Trump dismissed the issue, calling price increases a 'minor issue' compared to stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He added that he will 'never apologize' and insisted that the actions taken by the U.S. are correct.
