Taiwan's Legislative Yuan passed the central government's overall budget for fiscal year 2026 (115) yesterday (14), allocating approximately NT$63.4 billion for drone-related initiatives. This includes the Ministry of Economic Affairs' (MOEA) 'Integrated Development Program for Unmanned Vehicle Industry,' a six-year, NT$44.2 billion plan aimed at cross-ministerial resource integration.
Huang Chih-fang, Chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), stated today (15) that the approval of the NT$44.2 billion drone budget is undoubtedly a strong boost for Taiwan's drone industry, signaling its imminent takeoff. Huang emphasized that TAITRA will strengthen its support for Taiwanese component manufacturers by promoting and facilitating international exchanges, positioning itself as a key player in drone exports.
This morning, TAITRA hosted the '2026 Taipei Children's Festival' at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1 in Nangang. TAITRA staff and industry partners collectively purchased 1,659 'Food Blessing Boxes' from the Andrew Charitable Association, assembling and packing them on-site to deliver care to children in remote areas.
Speaking to reporters before the event, Huang Chih-fang highlighted that the legislative approval of the drone budget is a significant boost for the industry. He noted that Taiwan's drone sector already possesses strong foundational advantages, including a robust ecosystem in information and communications technology (ICT), IC chip design, and electronic control systems. Key components such as motors and batteries are also areas of competitive strength. The primary gap has been limited opportunities for overseas market expansion. With government leadership providing additional support, industry growth will be significantly accelerated, and TAITRA will play a crucial role in export promotion.
Huang emphasized that Taiwan's domestic drone industry is fundamentally sound and that TAITRA will intensify its targeted promotion efforts both domestically and internationally. He announced that a dedicated 'Drone Pavilion' will be featured at the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition in September 2027, promising a highly impressive showcase.
Additionally, Huang revealed that TAITRA will host a defense forum in October 2026, where the drone industry will be a top priority. Military and technical experts will share insights with domestic and international industry players. TAITRA will leverage its global network of offices to secure export and collaboration opportunities for Taiwan's drone manufacturers.
Huang pointed out that the drone industry has consistently been a highlight at TAITRA's Taiwan Image Exhibitions in recent years. It was a central focus at exhibitions held in Poland and other locations in June and July this year. Moving forward, TAITRA will utilize diverse channels to fully support Taiwan's drone industry in connecting with international markets.
