Alibaba (BABA-US) (09988-HK) unveiled the test version of its artificial intelligence (AI) music generation model HappyShrimp 1.0 on Monday (17th). By simply entering a text prompt describing emotions, stories, or music genres, users can generate complete songs featuring melody, composition, lyrics, and human-like vocals.
Alibaba states that even individuals without professional music knowledge can use HappyShrimp to create either vocal tracks or instrumental pieces. Users may also provide their own lyrics, allowing the AI to handle composition, arrangement, and singing.
The model supports diverse musical styles including Chinese traditional, pop, rock, electronic, and jazz. Users can further customize instrument configurations, vocal styles, and emotional progression to better align outputs with personal needs.
Alibaba will collaborate with China's Taihe Music Group to promote co-creation with musicians and content development, exploring applications of AI-generated music in professional production and commercial content.
Under CEO Eddie Wu’s leadership, Alibaba is undergoing broad organizational restructuring. The company aims to increase annual revenue from its cloud and AI businesses fivefold over the next five years, reaching $100 billion. Earlier this month, Alibaba released its largest AI model to date, claiming performance comparable to global leader Anthropic—demonstrating Chinese tech firms’ ambitions to challenge U.S. AI rivals.
