US President Trump said on the 17th (Monday) that he does not intend to extend the memorandum of understanding with Iran, stating that while Iran wants a deal, "it won't be the kind of agreement we need."
Trump made the remarks when asked about the progress of US-Iran negotiations. He did not disclose details of the talks, only emphasizing that "Iran cannot have nuclear weapons."
Trump claimed the US is fully controlling the Strait of Hormuz through blockades and said, "We are shipping out millions of barrels of oil every week."
However, on the 13th of this month, a spokesperson for Iran's Armed Forces' Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran's "complete control," and no vessel can safely pass without Iran's permission.
When asked about his statement that Oman would be attacked if it "obstructs" the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said he believes Oman is "not behaving very well," but that "we can easily handle it."
Iran and Oman are finalizing a memorandum of understanding regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned that the US would attack Oman if it "obstructs" American efforts to reopen the strait.
