E Ink Holdings (8046-TW), a major manufacturer of electronic paper, continues to expand the diverse application scenarios of its technology. By utilizing the low power consumption, reflective display, and ability to maintain images without continuous power supply, E Ink creates information display devices that combine digitalization with sustainability. Recently, the company has introduced electronic paper into temple lantern stands.
E Ink CEO Dr. Jerry Hung stated that the application of electronic paper technology extends beyond existing domains into Taiwan's culturally rich religious spaces. With increasing demand for digital management, the partnership aims to improve temple operational efficiency by combining E Ink’s low-power, persistent-display features with Mingdian Temple Lights’ practical experience in religious settings. Through ecosystem collaboration, they seek to bring electronic paper into more local environments.
This initiative further expands the electronic paper ecosystem into traditional religious venues. E Ink provides the electronic paper panels, while Mingdian Temple Lights—a solutions provider specializing in temple lighting—applies its years of field experience to design the e-paper lantern stands, develop backend information management systems, and deliver installation and integration services for temples, jointly creating a digital lantern solution tailored to actual temple needs.
Mingdian Temple Lights has already assisted multiple temples across Taiwan in adopting e-paper lanterns, including Banqiao Shengtian Temple, Yilan Yuanshan Qixian Village Shitoucuo Zhenan Temple, Yilan City Sansheng Temple, and Taoyuan Yuande Baogong. The integration of e-paper displays with digital management systems enhances efficiency in updating lantern information, checking lamp positions, and daily operations.
Electronic paper uses reflective display technology, requiring no backlight or self-emission to maintain the image. Once the displayed content is updated, the image remains visible even without continuous power, making it especially suitable for long-duration, low-frequency update applications like lantern displays. Additionally, it offers wide viewing angles and paper-like readability, ensuring clear visibility from various angles.
