The number of investors in Taiwan stock ETFs has cooled for two consecutive weeks, decreasing by a total of 157,100. According to the latest shareholder distribution data from the Central Depository & Clearing Corporation as of August 14, the number of investors in 94 Taiwan stock ETFs decreased by 87,196 last week, bringing the total to 18,395,780. However, year-to-date, the number has still increased by 6,222,290. Despite the overall decline, 16 Taiwan stock ETFs, including 00923, 00982A, and 00686R, have seen consistent growth on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis, maintaining strong investor interest. These 16 ETFs are primarily market-cap weighted, actively managed, technology-focused, or inverse (1x), with all four inverse ETFs making the list—indicating a cooling of overall market sentiment.

The Capital Securities Taiwan ETF team analyzed that given the rapidly changing investment environment and fast industry rotation in the Taiwan stock market, leveraged and inverse ETFs are excellent tools for investors who want exposure to the market but are wary of picking individual stocks. As market conditions shift quickly, investors can flexibly use leveraged and inverse ETFs: leveraging leveraged ETFs to amplify returns in bull markets, using inverse ETFs to hedge during downturns, and even creating profit opportunities during consolidation phases—fully capturing both bullish and bearish market opportunities in Taiwan.

Hung Hsiang-Yi, portfolio manager of the Capital Taiwan Weighted Inverse 1 ETF (00686R-TW), noted that the Taiwan Weighted Index has rebounded over 6,000 points from its recent low, driving increased hedging demand for inverse ETFs. However, he emphasized that Taiwan's 1x inverse ETFs have relatively high internal costs and are not suitable for long-term holding. Instead, they are ideal for short-term bearish trend trading or hedging during downtrends. While Taiwan's long-term market trend has historically been a slow and steady bull market, and the fundamental outlook remains strong with a positive medium- to long-term structure, recent market volatility has been intense. Investors are advised to make strategic use of leveraged and inverse ETFs to create profit opportunities even during turbulent periods.

Chen Yuan-Yi, portfolio manager of the actively managed Capital Taiwan Strong Bull (00982A-TW), stated that Taiwan's economy remains stable, global AI infrastructure continues to expand, AI applications are accelerating, and with the second half entering the peak season for consumer electronics inventory buildup, export momentum is expected to remain strong. The outlook for Taiwan stocks remains positive. However, investors should remain cautious regarding changes in major central banks' monetary policies and international geopolitical developments. Actively managed Taiwan ETFs offer high flexibility, enabling quicker portfolio adjustments, cutting underperformers, and retaining strong performers in response to changing market conditions—making them valuable tools for investors.

Chiu Yu-Ju, portfolio manager of the Capital Taiwan ESG Low Carbon 50 (00923-TW), expressed a positive long-term outlook for Taiwan stocks, driven by sustained AI demand and capital expenditure expansion by major tech firms. Investors are encouraged to leverage market-cap weighted Taiwan ETFs with high exposure to AI-related tech stocks to capture these opportunities. Such ETFs can comprehensively include leading tech companies benefiting from AI trends, minimizing the risk of missing out on performance from various AI-related sectors as themes rotate—helping investors capture the full momentum of Taiwan's bull market.
