The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced today (19th) that its long-term promotion of the MEET TAIWAN initiative has continuously enhanced Taiwan’s international competitiveness in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry. This year, Taiwan received international recognition, winning two major awards at the 2026 M&C Asia Stella Awards. Taiwan has been selected as Asia’s Best Exhibition Destination for the third consecutive year, and the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) stood out among Asia’s professional venues, winning the Best Sustainability Initiative award for the first time—demonstrating Taiwan’s MICE capabilities and concrete achievements in advancing sustainable transformation.

The Department of International Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, explained that the Stella Awards are organized by M&C Asia, a leading MICE media platform under Singapore’s Northstar Meetings Group. The awards are voted on by global readers and MICE professionals and are among the most representative accolades in Asia’s MICE industry, recognizing outstanding destinations, venues, accommodations, and service providers. This year’s award ceremony was held on the evening of August 18 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where袁鴻麟 (Yuan Hong-Lin), Director of the Economic Division at Taiwan’s Representative Office in Malaysia, accepted the awards on behalf of Taiwan. Taiwan’s three consecutive wins underscore the ongoing international recognition of the country’s MICE environment and service quality by professional markets worldwide.

The Department of International Trade emphasized that in recent years, it has continuously improved Taiwan’s MICE infrastructure and soft environment. With the Taichung International Convention Center officially commencing operations this year, linking key MICE cities such as Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s MICE corridor has become more complete, offering more diverse venue options for large-scale domestic and international exhibitions and conferences. Going forward, the department will continue to integrate local industrial clusters and regional characteristics to maximize the synergistic effect of MICE driving industry growth and industry supporting MICE activities, further enhancing Taiwan’s competitiveness in attracting international MICE events.

The Department of International Trade noted that in response to the global net-zero transition trend, the Ministry of Economic Affairs continues to promote green MICE initiatives—from venue energy management and carbon emission calculations to ISO international certifications and greenhouse gas reduction measures at MICE venues—assisting industry players in implementing sustainability into MICE operations. TICC’s first-time win of the Best Sustainability Initiative award is not only a recognition of a single venue but also highlights Taiwan’s MICE industry’s progress from hardware development toward sustainability and internationalization.

Looking ahead, the Department of International Trade stated that it will continue to promote Taiwan’s high-quality MICE brand through the MEET TAIWAN initiative, integrating Taiwan’s industrial strengths, diverse cultures, cuisine, and tourism resources to create MICE experiences that combine business value, sustainability, and local characteristics. The goal is to attract more international conferences, exhibitions, and business professionals to Taiwan, transforming MICE events from standalone activities into vital platforms that drive industrial collaboration and expand business opportunities.
