In response to the impact of the Chung Lien Oils salad oil incident on the food industry supply chain, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has convened multiple cross-departmental and industry meetings since July to fully monitor domestic salad oil production, inventory, and supply-demand dynamics. To address resulting supply shortages, MOEA has actively coordinated between supply and demand sides, successfully facilitating Tung-Tai (1232-TW) in meeting the oil needs of several downstream industries including catering, canned food, and pastry fillings. Additionally, through a special supply program, Taisugar is providing 534 barrels of salad oil daily to 43 school meal service providers, ensuring market supply stability.
With the consecutive arrival of traditional high-demand periods such as the Zhongyuan Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and the start of the new school term, some downstream businesses may experience temporary supply limits or delivery delays due to sudden supplier changes. The MOEA's Industrial Development Bureau immediately coordinated with three major salad oil producers—Tung-Tai, Everlight, and Taisugar—to maximize production capacity and flexibly adjust deliveries based on market demand. Major oil producers have clearly stated they will prioritize supply of household salad oil to help minimize market volatility.
Furthermore, as some consumers have recently switched to alternative oils such as canola, sunflower, and palm oil, overall salad oil supply is expected to meet market demand. To assist affected businesses in smoothly transitioning to new suppliers, MOEA has established a dedicated matchmaking window at its 'Immediate Assistance Service Center' (hotline: 0800-280-280), proactively providing contact information for salad oil producers to ensure uninterrupted oil supply for food manufacturers and school lunch programs.
MOEA urges food businesses to prudently plan inventory based on actual production and operational needs during this peak season and maintain close coordination with suppliers. MOEA will continue monitoring salad oil market dynamics and take timely necessary measures to support stable operations in the food industry and ensure smooth supply chain functioning, allowing businesses to prepare with confidence and consumers to shop with peace of mind.
