The Taiwan stock market (TAIEX) experienced volatile movements on the 20th, opening higher at 44,942.01 points. The index surged over 400 points intraday, reaching a high of 45,160.05 points, before turning negative again and dropping to 44,446.36 points. However, buoyed by gains in TSMC and strong performance from shipping stocks stepping up, the market recovered. Although it failed to reclaim the 45,000-point level, it closed up 214.39 points (0.48%) at 44,933.74 points, reclaiming the 20-day moving average. Trading volume totaled NT$792.96 billion.

Analyzing today's institutional trading activities, foreign investors bought a net NT$3.78 billion worth of shares. In contrast, local dealers sold a net NT$6.11 billion, and investment trusts sold a net NT$1.21 billion, resulting in a combined net sell-off of NT$3.54 billion by the three major institutional investors.
