On August 16, 2009, Usain Bolt set the human 100-meter limit at 9.58 seconds in Berlin—a record rewritten 17 years later by Shenzhen's 'Flash'.
Last Saturday (22nd), during preparation for the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games outside Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval 'Ice Ribbon', Honor's self-developed humanoid robot 'Flash' crossed the finish line in 9.32 seconds, reaching a peak speed of 14.5 meters per second—improving the human world record by 0.26 seconds.
In fact, in April this year at the Yizhuang Half Marathon, it completed the race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds. From a half-marathon pace of 7–8 meters per second to a 100-meter burst of 14.5 m/s, it achieved a leap from endurance to explosive power. Honor CEO Li Jian called it a 'victory moment of self-breakthrough'.
Experts point out that 'Flash' runs faster than humans thanks to hardware advancements: leg length increased from 0.95 to 1.05 meters, expanding stride length. Combined with internal lightweight topological design for weight reduction, joint torque and response speed have been comprehensively enhanced. For the 100m, it uses a pure visual stabilization system via a hip-mounted camera to prevent deviation; for 400m, it adds a head-mounted radar.
Born at Honor's Pingshan base in Shenzhen, 'Flash' inherits the Magic series' Qinghai Lake battery (high energy density + pulse high current) and liquid cooling architecture, solving endurance and thermal control challenges. These technologies, forged under extreme conditions, will be fully integrated into the upcoming Magic9 series, realizing a 'champion-origin' ecosystem.
Honor currently has nearly 10,000 R&D personnel. At its smart manufacturing industrial park in Pingshan, a smartphone rolls off the production line every 28.5 seconds. This precision manufacturing capability, supply chain control, and deep understanding of power management, thermal design, and precision structural components are key strengths in the robotics arena.
This year's event attracted 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries, doubling in scale. 'Flash' was the only robot athlete to take the oath. By 2025, Shenzhen's robot cluster is projected to generate over 37.9 billion yuan in revenue, a 34.3% increase, with service robot production accounting for nearly 43% of the national total—making it China's most complete robotics industry chain.
