Ligitek (8111-TW), an LED packaging manufacturer, is making steady progress in its silicon photonics R&D. At this year's semiconductor exhibition (SEMICON), the company will co-exhibit with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), showcasing their jointly developed silicon photonics optical engine module. Despite overall market weakness on Wednesday (31st), Ligitek attracted strong buying interest, rising steadily from early trading and hitting the daily limit at NT$68.60, with trading volume more than tripling compared to the previous day.

For its upcoming appearance at the international SEMICON show, Ligitek has established a joint exhibition area with ITRI to present its latest silicon photonics optical engine module. Furthermore, under the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Industrial Development Bureau's Technology Bridging Program, Ligitek has initiated a cross-border R&D collaboration with Qiancai Technology and the Netherlands-based PHIX. This partnership integrates key technologies including optoelectronic packaging, fiber coupling, optical module design, and high-speed verification. A成果 launch event is planned, with further exhibitions scheduled in the Netherlands in November.

Ligitek is focusing on developing high-speed silicon photonics modules exceeding 200G per channel. The company has adopted a strategy to skip the existing 800G market standard and directly target 1.6T optical transceivers, with future plans to advance toward 3.2T high-end modules. According to industry sources, Ligitek's 1.6T product prototype is scheduled for release in September. Equipment procurement and mass production preparations will commence in the second half of 2023, with small-volume shipments expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023 and scale up in the first quarter of 2024. The commercialization of these high-margin products is expected to drive the company into a profitable growth phase.
