President Lai Reaffirms Four Foundational Projects of 'AI New Ten Major Constructions,' Thanks Industry for Economic Partnership

President Lai Qingde met today (31st) with the newly elected 27th board and supervisors of the Industry and Commerce Promotion Association, stating that the government's responsibility is to create a favorable environment for industries of all sectors and scales to seize opportunities for transformation and growth. He expressed gratitude to the association's members, professionals across all industries, and the people of Taiwan for working hand-in-hand with the government to achieve Taiwan's continued economic success, and expressed hope that industry leaders will continue to collaborate with the government to promote national prosperity.

The delegation was led by Wu Tung-liang and included Fubon Financial Holding (2881-TW) Chairman Tsai Ming-chung and Runmei Group President Yin Chung-yao.

In his speech, President Lai first thanked the association for successfully completing its leadership transition in June 2026, congratulated Chairman Wu Tung-liang on his re-election by a high margin, and extended congratulations to all newly elected directors and supervisors for taking on the important responsibility of leading Taiwan's industrial and commercial sectors forward. He highlighted Taiwan's continued robust economic achievements, noting that the first-half economic growth rate reached 14.15%, with the full-year growth rate projected at 11.05%—the highest in 39 years.

President Lai pointed out that for over 70 years, the Industry and Commerce Promotion Association has helped align government policies with business needs. At this critical juncture of industrial transformation and upgrading, to ensure Taiwan's leadership in high-tech fields, the government is advancing the 'AI New Ten Major Constructions,' which include four foundational projects. First is talent cultivation, aiming to train at least 500,000 AI application professionals by 2040. Second is the construction of a national computing center, which has already been launched in Tainan's Southern Science Park (South Science Park). Third is the development of an AI sovereign data center. Fourth is ensuring stable power supply and promoting balanced regional development across Taiwan.

President Lai explained that the 'AI New Ten Major Constructions' will also focus on three key research areas: quantum computing, silicon photonics, and robotics. He outlined three specific goals: First, to assist at least one million small, medium, and micro enterprises in digital transformation. Second, to position Taiwan as an ecosystem for AI innovation and entrepreneurship. Third, to integrate AI across all industries and sectors, transforming Taiwan into a comprehensive AI ecosystem and maintaining its leading position in the future.
