Taiwan's stock market experienced significant volatility today, with a sharp decline in the afternoon, closing down 307.06 points at 45,857.66 points, breaking the 46,000-point mark. The trading volume reached 946.2 billion NT dollars. Electronics-related stocks were generally weak, with TSMC up 5 NT dollars (0.2%), MediaTek and Delta Electronics up 1%, while Lite-On Semiconductor remained flat, and Hon Hai and Epistar fell. ABF substrate-related stocks were heavily hit, with Nan Ya PCB down by the daily limit, dragging down the sector. PCB-related stocks also weakened, with Chingteng down 8%, King Yuan Electronics down 6%, and Wafer Works down 5%. Memory and passive components also underperformed, with Nanya Technology and HannStar down 7%, and HannsGen and GigaDevice down 5%. High-priced stocks saw mixed performance, with Sintratech defending red, and Hontex and Epistar also rising. Chuanlun fell 2%, Lite-On Technology fell 8%, and Raytek fell by half a limit. While electronics-related stocks were weak, non-electronics sectors performed well, with financial stocks surging. E.Sun Financial Group rose 6%, Chang Hwa Bank and Cathay Financial Holding rose 3%. The three major container shipping companies also rose, with Evergreen Marine up 3%. The two major airlines also rose in tandem.
