Research firm TrendForce today released its latest IC design industry report, revealing that expanding AI-related applications have driven rising demand for GPUs, CPUs, ASICs, and interconnect products, boosting Q2 revenue for the global top 10 IC design companies by 73% year-on-year, surpassing $141.45 billion. NVIDIA (NVDA-US) remained in first place, Broadcom (AVGO-US) ranked second, and AMD (AMD-US) rose to third, benefiting from increased CPU adoption in AI proxy applications. Qualcomm (QCOM-US) slipped to fourth due to weakening mobile business.

NVIDIA's Q2 revenue grew 99% year-on-year, reaching nearly $91.16 billion, accounting for 64% of the top 10 firms' total revenue. In addition to hyperscale cloud service providers as major customers, Neo Cloud clients, sovereign AI initiatives, and enterprise customers have made significant contributions to revenue.

TrendForce noted that NVIDIA has recently expanded its NVLink Fusion ecosystem to enter the ASIC market. For example, its investment in MediaTek (2454-TW) aims to help customized XPU clients better integrate with existing NVIDIA infrastructure and lay the groundwork for future automotive AI applications. Earlier investments in Marvell also included NVLink Fusion in collaboration projects.

Broadcom ranked second in Q2 revenue, with its co-designed OpenAI's first ASIC and Google's TPU 8i beginning shipments this quarter. Its networking business grew in tandem with XPU demand, achieving a 112% year-on-year revenue increase to over $18.89 billion. Six custom chip clients, including frontier model developers Anthropic and OpenAI, will continue to drive its XPU demand.

AMD, ranked third, benefited from the rise of the AI proxy era, where CPU importance has resurged. Its Q2 revenue exceeded $11.53 billion. Data center CPU revenue has reached record highs for five consecutive quarters, steadily capturing market share from Intel (INTC-US) in the x86 server segment.

Qualcomm's Q2 revenue, though impacted by continued weakness in mobile chip business and declining share in next-generation iPhone modem chips, still exceeded $8.5 billion. Its automotive segment has achieved double-digit year-on-year growth for 23 consecutive quarters, offsetting some mobile sector weakness. The company has recently re-entered the data center market, accelerating diversification in its QCT division.

MediaTek's revenue was similarly affected by mobile market conditions, reaching around $4.81 billion, ranking fifth. However, the company has raised its AI ASIC business outlook, forecasting data center revenue to exceed $2 billion by 2026 and raising its addressable ASIC market size to $80 billion by 2028.

Surging demand for high-speed interconnects boosted Marvell (MRVL-US) Q2 revenue to $2.63 billion, placing it sixth. Its PAM4 DSP chips lead the industry, with strong demand for 800G DSPs and rapid ramp-up of 1.6T DSPs. Its custom business also secured a collaboration agreement with Google, expected to deliver significant contributions by fiscal 2029.

Realtek (2379-TW) reported Q2 revenue of nearly $1.19 billion, ranking seventh. Anticipating weaker PC performance in the second half of 2026, the company plans to leverage its strong IP portfolio to enter the server market, including 10G Ethernet and server control plane switches.

MPS's primary growth driver is AI-related power management solutions, with Q2 revenue reaching $981 million, ranking eighth. The company continues to expand capacity to support its transformation into a semiconductor solutions provider.

Novatek (3034-TW) recorded Q2 revenue of $907 million, ranking ninth, driven by sustained customer pre-purchasing momentum. SoC chip revenue now exceeds 50% of total revenue, with continued investment in Edge AI and machine vision SoC applications.

OmniVision's semiconductor design revenue reached $838 million this quarter, ranking tenth. While memory prices affected smartphone and automotive CIS businesses, emerging applications like action cameras showed strong growth. Its analog IC division has entered optical communication EIC, including TIA and driver chips.
