New Progress in U.S.-China Trade Talks! Greer: Agreement Reached on Certain Goods, More Details to Be Announced Monday

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Friday (25th) that the United States and China have reached an agreement on certain goods eligible for trade, enabling these products to enjoy more favorable trade terms—an indication of fresh progress in negotiations between the world’s two largest economies.

According to CNBC, Greer stated, “We have actually reached agreements with the Chinese side on some of these matters.” The goods referenced include U.S. agricultural products, medical devices, and Chinese consumer goods deemed non-sensitive.

Greer added that the Trump administration plans to unveil “further details” next Monday regarding the outcomes of negotiations conducted over recent weeks. He explained that the goal is to delineate specific trade areas that could be insulated from future tariff measures or broader trade disputes.

Both nations aim to facilitate trade in select goods under “more favorable conditions,” potentially exempting them from any new tariffs imposed by either side.

However, Greer did not specify which exact goods are covered by the agreement, how their tariffs might be adjusted, or when the new conditions will take effect.

He emphasized that talks held under the new U.S.-China 'Board of Trade' mechanism focus exclusively on “purely commercial trade issues,” separate from U.S. national security restrictions on advanced technologies.

“All export controls related to national security will not be part of these negotiations,” Greer affirmed.

Following a May meeting in Beijing between Trump and Xi Jinping, the two leaders announced the creation of the 'Board of Trade' to oversee trade in non-sensitive goods. Businesses have been awaiting further clarification on which trade categories will be excluded and subject to lower tariffs under this new framework.
