China May Allow NVIDIA Chip Imports! Alibaba and upstream Asked to Submit RTX PRO 5500 Procurement Plans

Two sources familiar with the matter revealed that the Chinese government has signaled it may allow some Chinese companies, including upstream and Alibaba, to purchase chips designed by NVIDIA for high-end professional computers.

According to a report by The Information on Sunday (27th), China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently asked companies including upstream and Alibaba to submit plans for purchasing NVIDIA's RTX PRO 5500 chips.

Sources said the ministry has informed some Chinese companies that the government intends to approve related purchases. Some industry executives expect the RTX PRO 5500 may not be subject to US export restrictions.

When asked about the matter, an NVIDIA spokesperson said: "US companies are currently subject to the dual constraints of outdated US export controls and China's own restrictions on imports of US products. US export controls cover gaming products launched nearly five years ago."
