Vanguard International Semiconductor (5347-TW) and NXP (NXPI) jointly established VSMC, which held its new fab opening ceremony in Singapore today (28th). Chairman Fang Lue said, "After approximately two years of construction, VSMC has officially transformed from an empty plot of land into a 12-inch wafer fab with mass production capabilities. This not only represents capacity expansion but will also further strengthen the resilience of the global semiconductor supply chain." He also expressed gratitude to joint venture partners NXP and TSMC (2330-TW)(TSM-US) for their assistance. TSMC's Vice President of Operations and Fab Management, Zhuang Zishou, personally attended the ceremony to witness the inauguration of the new fab.
Fang Lue stated, "About two years ago, our team held a groundbreaking ceremony at the same location. At that time, all we saw was an empty green field. Today, that vision has become a 12-inch wafer fab. This new fab demonstrates VSMC's commitment to manufacturing excellence, innovation, and long-term partnerships. It will serve global customers and support the continued growth of the semiconductor industry."
Fang Lue pointed out, "VSMC is no longer just a plan; it has become a reality. This achievement once again proves that major accomplishments can never be achieved by a single company alone. They are built on collaboration, trust, and a shared determination to succeed."
He further stated, "The semiconductor industry is at the core of global technological transformation. As market demand continues to grow, reliable manufacturing capabilities and a resilient supply chain are more important than ever. The purpose of establishing VSMC is to support industry growth while strengthening global supply chain resilience."
Fang Lue emphasized, "VSMC represents not just additional capacity, but also more opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth. In the future, the measure of VSMC's success will not be based solely on how much capacity we build, but more importantly, on the value we create for our customers, employees, and society."
Regarding partners, Fang Lue first thanked joint venture partner NXP. He noted, "The development of VSMC began with the signing of the joint venture agreement between the two parties in 2024. Since then, NXP has shared the same vision and commitment with Vanguard. The official inauguration of the new fab today reflects the results of our collaboration."
Fang Lue also thanked TSMC, stating, "TSMC has provided extremely important support during the establishment of VSMC. From fab construction, technology transfer, to employee training, TSMC has played a key role in helping VSMC build a solid operational foundation. We are very grateful for TSMC's expertise and continued support." He emphasized that TSMC is not only an important partner for VSMC but also a key customer.
For the inauguration of the new VSMC fab, TSMC representative Zhuang Zishou personally attended the ceremony, joining representatives from Vanguard, NXP, and the Singapore government to witness VSMC officially entering a new phase of operations.
In addition to industry partners, Fang Lue also thanked the Singapore government and related institutions for their consistent support. He said, "Singapore is a global hub for technology and advanced manufacturing, with complete talent, infrastructure, and innovation capabilities. For VSMC, Singapore is not just a location for the fab, but an important strategic partner for the company's future development. VSMC is proud to be a part of Singapore's semiconductor ecosystem, and this investment reflects our confidence in Singapore's long-term role in the global semiconductor industry."
Fang Lue also expressed gratitude to construction partners, suppliers, contractors, and the project team, noting that building a semiconductor wafer fab is one of the most complex engineering projects in the world. It is precisely through the expertise, dedication, and teamwork of all parties that the original vision has been transformed into the wafer fab inaugurated today.
