Survey on Awareness and Image of Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Have you ever experienced unexplained fatigue despite sleeping enough, or had a partner point out your loud snoring? These could be signs of Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS).

SAS is a condition characterized by repeated breathing pauses during sleep. It is often difficult for the individual to notice and frequently left untreated.

In collaboration with the So-seikai Medical Corporation's "Tokyo Fatigue and Sleep Clinic," specialists in snoring treatment, we surveyed 500 men and women across Japan.

Summary of Findings

- **Awareness**: 74.2% of respondents are familiar with the name of the condition. - **Source of Awareness**: "Television" was the primary source of information, cited by 75.7%. - **Self-Awareness**: 33.1% have suspected that they or a family member might have the condition. The trigger for 68.3% of these cases was "loud snoring." - **Perception**: 56.3% associate the condition with the risk of "potentially life-threatening consequences." - **Information Needs**: The most sought-after information is "treatment methods" (25.6%).

The survey highlights that while many recognize the condition as a serious, potentially life-threatening risk, there is a clear need for better education regarding specific symptoms and practical treatment paths.
