The Reality of Employee Benefits: A Mix of Appreciation and Non-Usage
As interest in work styles and compensation grows, "fringe benefits" are gaining attention alongside base salary. Benefits vary by company, from health check subsidies to housing allowances and leisure discounts. However, many employees feel they have "never used" the benefits provided by their employer.
To explore this, we conducted a survey on "Current Status and Satisfaction of Employee Benefit Systems" among 300 working adults nationwide, in partnership with "Fukuri Kousei Club Chubu," a provider of corporate benefit outsourcing services.
70.4% Report Having "Health Checkup/Medical Exam Subsidies"
We first asked if respondents had a benefit system at their workplace. 53.0% answered "Yes," while 47.0% answered "No." Among those who had benefits, the most common was "Health Checkup/Medical Exam Subsidy" at 70.4%. This was followed by "Housing/Rent Allowance" at 34.6%, "Leisure/Accommodation Discounts" at 27.7%, "Self-Development/Skill-up Support" at 23.3%, and "Childcare/Caregiving Support" at 22.0%.
57.2% Satisfied with Their Current Benefit System
When asked about satisfaction, 57.2% responded they were satisfied (10.7% "Very satisfied," 46.5% "Somewhat satisfied"). Conversely, 42.8% were dissatisfied (25.2% "Not very satisfied," 17.6% "Not at all satisfied").
Satisfied respondents cited comprehensive offerings and tangible benefits. Dissatisfied respondents requested more direct support like housing allowances and professional qualification subsidies.
Most Common Usage Frequency is "Occasionally" at 34.6%
Regarding usage frequency over the past year, 34.6% reported "Occasionally," while 27.7% and 27.0% reported "Hardly" or "Never" using them, respectively. Only 10.7% reported using them "Frequently" (once a month or more). Reasons for non-use included difficulty knowing when to use them and a lack of available benefits matching their needs.
57.0% Prioritize Benefits when Changing Jobs
When asked how much they value benefits when choosing a new workplace, 57.0% stated they prioritize them.
